Frequently-asked questions about our 1:1 services for members of the public.

Q: Where are the 1:1 consultations usually held?

A: By Skype or telephone or in private meeting rooms on consultation days. Consultation days are a series of private 1:1 consultations held on a single day that runs between 9.30am and 5pm. These run about once every two to three weeks in rented offices and are very popular. Locations are:

  • London (offices near Bank tube station)& Meetings Meeting Room
  • Manchester (offices near Manchester Piccadilly station)
  • Sheffield (near junction 35 of the M1)

Meeting rooms typically have whiteboards, flip-charts and refreshments.

Q: How long is a 1:1 consultation?

A: Usually one hour, although you can book a double consultation session if you wish.

Q: How much does a 1:1 consultation cost?

A: For all types of 1:1 consultation (face-to-face at one of our consultation days, Skype and telephone):

  • £114 for a one hour consultation.
  • Discounted price of £420 for a package of four one hour consultations.

Note that for couple consultations and adult + child consultations there may be an additional cost of £25 per hour to cover the increased room hire cost.

Any additional costs incurred during the process will be passed onto the customer. Chimp Management will strive to reduce these costs to the lowest possible level. However travel to meetings at the customer choice of venue will incur travel costs at 25 pence per mile return, or other reasonable public transport costs. Dates outside of clinic days will also incur a room hire supplement. We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience, and any difficulty this may cause.

Q: Should I book one consultation session or a package of four?

A: We will always book you in for an initial assessment consultation. If you then wish to proceed with further sessions, you may take advantage of the four session discount by paying the balance of £306. The admin office will guide you through this.

Q: What is an “initial assessment consultation”?

A: The initial assessment consultation is a one hour assessment and planning meeting. You and your mentor will discuss areas you want to look at, establish your needs, your current level of understanding of the Chimp Management model and help you to gain further insight.

If at the end of the initial assessment both you and your mentor agree that further consultations would be beneficial, you can book your next consultation through the admin office. Occasionally your mentor may recommend a more suitable mentor or alternative services that may better meet your particular needs.

Q: What are “further consultations”?

A: In further consultations your mentor will work with you to help you discover how to apply the principles of the Chimp Model in developing the emotional skills and behaviours that will increase the probability of you becoming the person that you want to be and living the life that you want to lead. One and two hour consultations are available.

Q: Can I reclaim costs from my health insurer?

A: Because our mentors are not registered with private healthcare providers, it is your responsibility to establish whether you can reclaim any incurred costs from your insurer.

Q: What if I am also receiving an intervention elsewhere?

A: If you are receiving a therapeutic or medical intervention elsewhere, please discuss with your GP or specialist practitioner the appropriateness of attending Chimp Management mentoring consultations. Ideally we would like to be in touch directly with them to ensure that we give you the best possible support.

Q: What is the longest consultation I could book?

A: For therapeutic reasons, we recommend consultations are no longer than two hours.

Q: Is it important that I have read the Chimp Paradox book?

A: Whilst it might be helpful to have read the first few chapters, it is not necessary to have read the book, as your mentor will guide you through the process. We recommend attending an introductory workshop if possible, as this will give you a solid foundation for specific 1:1 work.

Q: How do I book a 1:1 consultation?

Q: What is your cancellation policy?

A: More than 48 hours notice: Re-arrangement of consultation; Less than 48 hours notice: Full payment.

Q: How many consultations will I need?

A: The number of consultations will vary according to your individual needs. Typically, individuals start with four consultations.

Q: What frequency will the consultations be?

A: The frequency of consultations will vary according to your individual needs and availability of both yourself and your mentor. As a rough guide, frequency is typically every 2 – 4 weeks initially. In some cases this can develop into a longer lasting relationship with your mentor, with a frequency of perhaps once every 1 – 2 months.

Q: Do you work with under 18s?

A: Yes. All our mentors are DBS-checked. To work with 16 to 18 year olds, we require written consent from a parent or guardian. To work with under-16s, we require a responsible adult to be present with the child. This includes Skypes.

For under 14s, we recommend face-to-face consultations as we find these to be more effective with younger children.

Please note that for adult and child face-to-face consultations at our rented locations there may be an additional cost of £25 per hour to cover the increased room cost.

Q: Do you work with couples?

A:  Whilst we are not relationship counsellors and we recommend working with each person individually, we can work with couples. Please note that for face-to-face consultations with couples at our rented locations there may be an additional cost of £25 per hour to cover the increased room cost.

Q: Will I be given homework?

A: The real work is done by you between consultations. You will be given homework and you will also be expected to work on applying the principles you have learned on a daily basis.

Q: What is a Chimp Management mentor?

A: Our mentors are fully trained and supervised in the Chimp Management model and offer mentoring rather than counselling or coaching services. Our mentors are bound by their professional body’s code of ethics, which means consultations are confidential unless there is a risk of harm to yourself or others.

Q: Do you offer medical, psychiatric or addiction advisory services?

A: No. We are not trained in these areas.

Q: When might I expect to notice results?

A: This is individualised work, so it depends on the individual. As a guide, we say that it may take up to three months to begin to notice real and lasting change in the way that you think and behave. Some individuals will recognise more immediate benefits, for others it can take much longer.

Q: Can I record a 1:1 consultation or workshop?

A: It is company policy that no 1:1 consultations or workshops can be recorded as we must respect the confidentiality of the consultation, which may include anecdotes from other clients for which we have been given permission to use only in 1:1 consultations or workshops. And if recording are made public, they may lose their context, which can lead to misunderstanding.

Q: What if I am not happy with the quality of service I receive?

A: If you are not happy with the service you have received for any reason, please email enquiries@chimpmanagement.com. The quality of our service is paramount and we will usually ask for feedback after the first consultation.
