From Tim…

Well, how did I get here? To be honest, a lot of it has to do with Professor Peters, but there are experiences from my past that fuelled my drive to do what I do today.

Growing up, I was fortunate to have parents whose beliefs and values instilled in me the idea that anything was achievable. My father had an unconventional career as a ‘pop star’ in the 1970s, which gave me the psychological permission to dream big. This upbringing gave me a desire to help young people break free from self-imposed limitations and believe in their potential.

After my cycling career, I realised there was little support to develop athletes holistically at either community or elite levels. I often felt misunderstood and unsupported, which compelled me to create an inclusive development program—although I quickly learned that ‘inclusive’ and ‘elite’ didn’t always go together. The real lightbulb moment came when I realised that cycling coaching was never just about the bike. It was the vehicle I used to nurture and develop people—from young athletes to parents and coaches.

Working at Chimp Management gives me the tools to help people find and value who they are. It’s about stopping the habit of giving happiness away and empowering individuals to take ownership of their lives and choices.
