More about your stay

You’ll be staying at our newly renovated Coach House, located on the grounds of Bennetston Hall, which is currently under renovation. Situated in the Peak District, the Coach House is just a 15-minute drive from the nearby towns of Castleton and Buxton.

The venue is designed specifically for our retreats, offering a quiet space to focus on your psychological wellbeing. Each guest will have their own en-suite bedroom, a shared kitchen, and a large living room where your seminar discussions will take place. There will also be time to explore the local area during your stay.

Here is the outline agenda for your Psychological Retreat

Day 1

Arrival time is between 15:00-17.30 where you’ll be greeted by a member of the team. Your Mentor will host a 1-hour session between 18:00-19:00 to welcome everyone, during which you’ll get to know your fellow guests and introduce yourselves.

The session will include an overview of what to expect from the retreat, and to start to think about what you’re hoping to achieve from the Retreat. This session will cater to the participants in attendance and so may include an introduction / a refresher on The Model, and the rules of the mind in preparation for your discussions.

Your breakfasts for the stay will be delivered and can be stored in the shared kitchen fridge, or in the mini fridge located in your own private accommodation.

Day 2

After breakfast, you’ll start the day by exploring your own agenda points with the group, identifying what you would like to achieve from the retreat, challenges you might be facing and how you can manage your mind. A working lunch of sandwiches and cakes will be provided.

During the afternoon, you’ll break for a few hours, offering time to explore the local towns, take in a walk or take advantage of some time to yourself to rest and reflect on the discussions so far.

You’ll return to the sessions for a further few hours of discussion, following which you’ll have free time in the evening for dinner. Previous guests have visited local pubs or restaurants together as a group or have used the onsite kitchen facilities to prepare dinner themselves.

Day 3

For your final session, this will be an opportunity to reflect on your discussions from the previous day, thinking about what resonated, your individual plans moving forward, look at what could derail you from actioning your plans following retreats, and have a plan in place for that. You will then say your farewells and depart from the Coach House by 12:00, when you can visit some of the local attractions or a walk in the Peak District before starting your onward journey.

Our retreats are grounded in group work, and much of the experience involves sharing, listening, and reflecting alongside others. While there is no pressure to speak beyond what feels comfortable, participants in retreats need to feel open to being part of a group process and engaging with others in a respectful, collaborative way. Many find this shared experience deeply enriching, offering insights and connections that are hard to find elsewhere. However, we understand that group settings aren’t right for everyone. Our retreats would not be suitable for those who are currently unable or uncomfortable working in a group environment.

About the Guided Walk

As part of the retreat, participants will take part in a guided reflective walk in the Peak District.

Distance: Approximately 3 miles (dependent on route)
Group size: Maximum 8 participants
Terrain: Hillside walking trails, uneven ground, exposed sections, inclines and decline

A Walking Retreat | 24th – 26th August 2026

Managing Change

This small-group retreat combines guided reflective walking with open discussion, giving you the opportunity to explore how you respond when life feels uncertain, changeable or outside of your control.

Together, we will consider how the mind can react to change, recognise your own patterns and explore practical ways to respond more steadily when things do not go as expected. The emphasis is on shared discussion rather than teaching, in a supportive and relaxed environment.

The walk will take place at a comfortable pace across natural countryside terrain. The route will be discussed with the group and adapted where possible to suit different fitness levels and needs. A reasonable level of mobility is required.

Facilities include eight en-suite bedrooms, a meeting room and a kitchen.

Is there catering?

Yes! We provide a locally sourced continental breakfast basket for each delegate as well as a working lunch on Saturday. The evenings are free for you to explore the local restaurants (we can guide you). If you wish to prepare your own meals, there is a small, fully-functioning kitchen available for all guests to use.

I’m fairly new to The Model, having recently read one of Prof Peters’ books; will this retreat be suitable for me?

The Mind Management Skills for Life: A follow up is suitable only for those who have previously attended a Mind Management Skills for Life 8-stage programme with a Chimp Management Mentor or have read A Path Through the Jungle. All other retreats can be catered to the participants level of knowledge, however, where possible and for your own benefit, we would recommend that all guests have some understanding of The Model prior to attending. The pace and discussions over the Retreat will be at the pace of the participants and guided by your Mentor.

Can I travel to the Coach House by train?

The nearest train stations are Dove Holes, and Buxton. Please note that we do not provide transport during retreats and so you would need to make arrangements of your own to travel between the station and the Coach House.

Can I book an extra night’s accommodation at The Coach house for before/after the Retreat?

Unfortunately, we are unable to permit guests to book accommodation for beyond the dates included, and so we would recommend that you book alternative accommodation for the additional dates that you require.

Will there be a member of staff staying on site

Our staff generally don’t stay on site however, you will be provided with emergency contact numbers for members of staff who live nearby and will be on call for anything you may need during your stay.

Do you cater to dietary requirements?

How long does it last?

The Retreat begins on Friday evening when we greet you and have the first welcoming session. Saturday will have guided discussions and some time out to explore the local villages, such as Castleton and Buxton. The retreat closes at lunchtime on day 3.

My significant other and I would like to attend together. Do we need to book separate rooms?

Yes. The cost of your booking includes a room for one person over 2 nights, breakfast for each morning, and lunch on the day 2. If you wish to share a room, you would need to book individual places / rooms, including at least one double room.

What others say

Provided an opportunity to apply and discuss the chimp management principles in-depth. A break from my regular life to reflect and find perspective. Beautiful setting.

Attendee March 2024

It seemed to open more confidence for me and even while there I completed some work I’d been mulling over for 2 weeks. Like a weight had been lifted!
