Study Background

Occupational Burnout affects up to 40% of mental health professionals, with adverse consequences for their wellbeing and performance at work. The Psychological Health Observatory conducted an independent evaluation of the Mind Management Skills for Life Programme as an intervention for workplace wellbeing.

Study Overview

This clinical trial included 173 mental health nurses working within RDaSH NHS Trust. Half of the participants were randomly assigned to an immediate intervention group, while the other half were placed in a waitlist control group, receiving the intervention later.
The programme consisted of 8 group-based workshops, delivered virtually. It’s important to note that Chimp Management was not involved in recruitment, data collection, or analysis. Participants completed measures of burnout (OLBI) and well-being (WEMWBS) at four key time points:

1. Baseline
2. Post-first intervention group
3. Post-second intervention group
4. Six-month follow-up

Results & Conclusion

The results demonstrate statistically significant reductions in burnout and increases in psychological
well-being. Moreover, both groups maintained these improvements six months after completing the intervention.

“We conclude that this intervention is effective in improving occupational burnout and wellbeing in mental healthcare professionals.”

It’s remarkable that this intervention successfully reduced burnout levels in nurses during such a challenging time.”
