Professor Steve Peters and the Chimp Management team perform charity pantomime to school children in York.
To begin 2021’s pantomime season Prof Peters and the Chimp Management team showcased the Professor Lightbulb Pantomine to school children in York. The play explores how children can identify their Chimp’s behaviours and how they can manage them. These techniques have been adapted to fit a young audience with a new narrative to entertain and educate the students.
Prof Peters took on the title role of Professor Lightbulb to perform as the maverick scientist entrusted to explain how his magical ‘Chimp Extracting’ machine works. With help from medical students from the University of Sheffield, Prof Peters takes us on a journey of how our Chimp can be our best friend and our worst enemy with an exciting twist and pantomime showmanship.
Over the two days, the pantomime was performed to 400 primary students and hosted at the Hob Moor Community Academy, part of the Ebor Academy Trust. The Trust is just one within the UK that has been working with Chimp Management to introduce The Chimp Model to teachers and pupils through a selection of workshops and presentations. The aim of the pantomime is to introduce the pupils to neuroscience to help them understand how their mind works and explain how their thoughts, emotions and beliefs are formed. The different tools and techniques in the panto aim to help the children to work on their relationship with their chimp and help develop their minds.
Professor Peters also provided further information for parents and teachers after the pantomime in the evening with a charity event focusing on how adults can help develop the minds of children as educators and parents. This presentation highlighted some of the different mind management tools mentioned in his books ‘A Path through the Jungle‘ and ‘My Hidden Chimp‘.
Proceeds for each ticket for the evening’s event has been donated to charity (Hob Moor Primary) and the total was matched by Chimp Management.
