From Sarah…

Ever since I can remember I have known that I want to help people. This is the reason I went into medicine  to become a doctor.  I have always felt it is a huge privilege to be permitted into people’s lives and for them to open up and trust me and be invited to help them deal with whatever challenges they are struggling to deal with. I realised I had a skill to be able to really connect and communicate with patients and the importance of this even when dealing with their physical problems.

My interest in the mind was really piqued during lectures in psychiatry from Steve when I was a medical student. I was torn between following a career in psychiatry or in general practice. I entered into general practice but realised there was such a huge crossover and such a need For being able to understand the human mind as a GP so that I could best help my patients whether they were presenting with a  physical or mental illness. The Chimp model so easily explains such complex nuances of the mind and it made so much sense to me immediately to be able to help explain why so often patients were sabotaging their own health or recovery when logically this did not make sense. Having a model gave me a tool to help my patients to be able to manage their mind better and I saw firsthand huge improvements in their physical and mental health.

I use the Chimp model in every aspect of my life from working as a GP, with my clients within Chimp Management Ltd and within my own life as a mum of three children. I get a huge amount of fulfilment being able to help others navigate the difficulties and challenges of everyday life and being able to see them flourish and reach their potential through the model is such an enormous privilege.
