Our Client Services Director, Simon Jones, recently met with Tackling Minds Founder David Lyons to make a £500 donation on behalf of Chimp Management. This donation will go towards supporting David and his team of volunteers to offer further sessions to individuals who are struggling with their mental health.
Launched in 2020, Tackling Minds works with mental health organisations, educational institutions, and social prescribing link workers. The charity provides a safe, supportive, and affordable environment for the community’s diverse population to get out and enjoy the great outdoors while learning how to fish.
David himself knows first-hand the struggles of living with mental health issues. Fishing played a pivotal role in his journey to recovery and inspired him to set up Tackling Minds to help more people benefit from the positive health advantages it offers.
In 2022, Tackling Minds joined forces with Angling Direct and Anglia Ruskin University to study the relationship between recreational fishing and mental health among UK adults. The research highlighted tangible evidence of fishing’s positive impact on a spectrum of mental and physical health conditions.
‘Having found the enjoyment and benefits of fishing since childhood, I am delighted to support David and his team at Tackling Minds to develop the sport into to recognised alternative therapy for those struggling with mental health. It was fantastic to get out on visit one of the sessions to hear first-hand how their efforts are making a positive impact on those who use the service and his plans to grow the charity from its Manchester base into a national network.’
