Andrea has been supporting Alex TLC for many years now after her niece Christine tragically passed away from Leukodystrophy over 20 years ago.
“Nothing could have prepared us for what was to come. Christine was so bright, she could say complete sentences at 10 months old. She was so full of life and character she always made us all laugh and smile. Sadly we had to stand back and heartbreakingly watch her slowly fade away from the age of 1 and a half years old till she finally gave up the fight at 12 years old. There was no support available for families going through this. I am so grateful for charities like Alex TLC. They will always have my support.”

The £500 donation will enable this small charity to support families, raise awareness and assist in advancing medical research to find better treatments that would allow early diagnosis that could potentially increase life expectancy.
There are a lot of different things to do to support Alex TLC, whether it’s by fundraising, donating, visiting their online charity shop, volunteering, corporate opportunities, and multiple different ways which can be found on their website.
Who are Alex, The Leukodystrophy Charity (Alex TLC)
Alex TLC is the only charity in the UK that provides invaluable support for anyone with genetic leukodystrophy, their families and carers.
Leukodystrophies are genetic disorders that mainly affect the white matter of the central nervous system (i.e. the brain or spinal cord). They affect people of all ages and backgrounds, most notably children. Most leukodystrophies are degenerative, causing symptoms such as impaired mobility, vision, speech and hearing, incontinence, inability to swallow and loss of cognitive skills. In many cases, this sadly means a reduced or limited lifespan. There are over 100 different known types of leukodystrophy, including some so rare they only affect one or two individuals.
How will the donation be used?
Alex TLC does its utmost to ensure donations are spent wisely and in the areas of need identified through our Impact Reports. Chimp Management’s incredibly generous donation of £500 could pay for up to 34 hours of telephone support for someone with a leukodystrophy who has nowhere else to turn, or it could be used towards a grant to help a person with leukodystrophy access therapies or equipment not available to them on the NHS.
How can you get involved?
As a small charity, Alex TLC has a small supporter base, and we would love to chat with you and discuss the different ways in which you might be able to support us. Please visit our website to find out more: www.alextlc.org
